Kitchen Remodel: Demo Day
Demo day: there is something so exciting and refreshing about creating a blank slate. Our wonderful homeowners, Andy & Carole, have hired us to completely renovate their 1950’s kitchen. They have a ranch style home on a beautiful piece of property just outside of town. We have done other home repairs for Andy & Carole in the past: including some mold removal and window replacement. They have been patiently waiting to get started on their kitchen remodel until these other home repairs were addressed, and we are thrilled to get started!
We began by pulling out all of their old cabinetry and mint green tile counter tops. Next week we will be installing custom shaker-style cabinets, a farm sink, new appliances, butcher block counter tops, and a tumbled marble back splash. To prepare for the custom cabinet installation, we had to close off the doorway leading to a bedroom to allow space for the refrigerator in the new layout. This meant adding a new entrance to that bedroom from the living room. We also had to level the floor where the old peninsula used to be, since they won’t be replacing their floors just yet. All these “prep” jobs are done, and plumbing, electric, and drywall are underway!
Andy & Carole were given some French doors from a family member’s home; we were fortunate to get to reuse these as the new bedroom entrance. We love getting to re-purpose older pieces to add character and function to a space, while helping with the budget as well!
Andy & Carole have been extremely kind, creative, and patient when it has come to the design of their remodel. We will be renovating their kitchen in stages to ease some of the financial stress of the project while still having the final result Andy & Carole are envisioning. Phase one is what we have the pleasure of working on now: new cabinets, counters, & back splash. When they are ready, we will begin phase two: a new tile floor, light fixtures, and under cabinet lighting.
We feel very fortunate to have the pleasure of working with Andy & Carole, and to be able to give them a more functional and beautiful kitchen to gather their children, grandchildren, family & friends. They are an exceptional couple, with a great eye for design, and we can’t wait to see their vision come to life!
